Dr. Whiting is a family physician with decades of experience in comprehensive family medicine. He has special interests in nutrition as medicine, and skin cancer screening. Dr. Whiting accepts referrals from family physicians for assessment of skin lesions and full skin examinations.

Our phones are not answered outside these hours. For urgent after-hours concerns, please dial 811 (HealthLink BC) for free nurse advice, or go to your nearest urgent care or emergency department.

Booking an Appointment

We are not currently accepting new patients. The information below is for existing patients of our practice.

We encourage patients to use our online booking system where possible. Online appointments are available for non-urgent, single-issue visits.

Online bookings are 10-minute appointments for a single item. If you have more than one concern, or if your issue is complex, please call the office so we can allocate the right amount of time.

Online bookings are not available for same-day appointments. If you need to be seen urgently, please call the office — we keep a small number of slots available for genuinely urgent visits each day.

Medication Refills

Your physician needs to check in on your condition periodically. Medications are generally prescribed to run out around the time your next check-in is due — this is intentional, not an oversight.

If you are due for a check-up: Please book a follow-up appointment online before your medication runs out. We generally take about a week to get patients in, so plan ahead.

If your medication has run out before your appointment, your pharmacy can usually provide an emergency renewal to tide you over until you are seen.

Understanding Your Results

We encourage all patients to register with the following services to access their own results directly:

Interior Health Patient Portal — access your hospital-based lab results and imaging reports directly. Register through Interior Health using your BC Services Card.

Dynacare Labs — access your community lab results directly. Register at Dynacare using your health services card.

If your physician is concerned about a result, they will contact you directly. If you have seen a result and want to discuss it, please book an appointment online.

Regarding specialist-ordered investigations: Family physicians carry the heaviest administrative burden of any physician group. We are not able — nor would it be appropriate — to follow up on every result from an investigation ordered by a specialist. If there is something from a specialist workup that you want to discuss, please book an appointment.

Wait Times to See a Specialist

As everyone in BC is well aware, wait times for specialist appointments range from long to, frankly, unreasonable. We understand how frustrating this is.

Specialists are responsible for triaging referrals and determining priority. We have no control over this process once a referral has been sent.

If your situation changes while waiting, or if you are waiting significantly longer than the estimated time, please book an appointment to speak with us. We will do our best to help — though sometimes the honest answer is that there is not much more we can do from our end.

Designed from the ground up to reduce phone volume by giving patients direct access to information, forms, and resources — without having to call. Booking, refill requests, skin examination intake, and patient education are all available here 24/7.

AI-Powered Patient Handouts

Our patient handout library is searchable using plain-language questions powered by artificial intelligence. Ask a question the way you would ask a person, and the system finds the most relevant resources for you. All handouts are written and reviewed by Dr. Whiting.

Heidi AI — Documentation Assistant

Our practice uses Heidi AI, an artificial intelligence tool that listens to conversations during appointments and generates a draft clinical note for the physician to review and edit. This allows your physician to focus entirely on you during the visit, rather than on the keyboard.

Custom Metabolic Summaries

For patients managing chronic metabolic conditions, Dr. Whiting can generate a personalized metabolic summary that interprets your lab results in plain language, tracks your progress over time, and connects directly to relevant nutrition resources.

A note on Heidi AI and your privacy: Heidi AI is a Health Canada-compliant tool designed for Canadian healthcare. Audio is processed to generate the clinical note and is not stored permanently. You will always be informed before Heidi is used, and you may decline at any time — this will not affect your care in any way. If you have questions about how Heidi works, please ask at your next appointment.
